THE AARP JOURNAL — THE NETHERLANDS

In a continuation of our work with AARP’s international office, ULTRA explored the Netherlands as the subject of the organization’s annual printed publication, The Journal. In the Netherlands, the challenge was telling a nuanced tale of population change. Once again, we set out to approach the topic through the lens of culture and humanity, rather than data and numbers.

During a month on location, ULTRA captured stories and images and developed a deeper understanding of the unique Dutch approach to aging. We also had the opportunity to travel with members of the AARP executive team, which strengthened our collaboration with the client and gave us front row access to discussions with industry leaders and experts. The typography, palette, and cover illustration (produced in-house) were influenced by the country’s rich culture of art and design and were used throughout the journal and in accompanying printed pieces.
